Artist Statement
I primarily work with digital illustrations and pencil drawing to create art and design with strong use of simple shapes and contour lines, while also incorporating intricate levels of detail. While simplified, my work also utilizes colors with personality and thoughtful, appropriate use of lines. I frequently alternate between flowing, geometric, or static shapes, which stems from my inspiration from cartoonists, corporate logos, and industrial designs of the 21st century. My works occasionally use universally comprehensible symbols to communicate messages effectively. My overall goal as an artist is to make art and design that is easily understood and visually appealing.
The relative focus on simple compositions and straightforward subject matter is essential to my motivation to make art to connect with others. I strive to use eye-catching colors, shapes, forms, or patterns as an attentive and unobstructed means to tell the human experience. Through limiting visual barriers, I intend to share my story effectively with artistic reflections of my inner consciousness, personality, emotions, or life experiences. In this way, my work serves to place the artist and viewer on the same conscious plane, making the viewer feel empathy. Through simplistic and appealing elements, the viewer feels a spectrum of emotions and human experiences. I often explore subject matter relating to themes such as childhood, love, family, or mental health to evoke such experiences for the viewer.
